SPCA sets free seminar Trainer Tracy Free of the Lycoming County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will hold a free seminar about adopting a second-hand dog at 11 a.m. April 17 at the shelter, 2805 Reach Road. “Choose your next best friend with an education, not an impulse,” Free said. The Lycoming County SPCA receives more than 1,300 dogs each year for various reasons. When cute and cuddly puppies become 95-pound delinquents, they end up at the shelter. An educated adopter has the best chance of finding a life-long companion, according to Free. “By making an informed decision, potential pet owners can reduce and prevent problems before they become unbearable,” said Victoria Stryker, executive director of the SPCA. “Tracy will discuss issues related to the breed of the dog and the family’s lifestyle. This is the perfect seminar for anyone thinking about adopting a dog, whether they have had a dog before or not.
