Troop 38 celebrates 50 years

July 25, 2008

On July 28, Boy Scout Troop 38 of Church of St. Ann will celebrate its 50th anniversary. In celebration of the troop’s silver anniversary, a banquet will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Church of St. Ann, 1220 Northway Road. In July 1958, eight years after the construction of the church at the corner of Sheridan Street and Northway Road in Loyalsock Township, 11 residents obtained a charter for the church from the West Branch Council, Boy Scouts of America. The troop registered 19 boys between 11 and 14 years of age. In the troop’s first eight years of operation, meetings were held Wednesday nights at the church. In those early years, nine different men served as Scoutmaster. In December 1966, Bernard Brenner agreed to serve as Scoutmaster. Brenner was a St. Ann parishioner, a former Navy pilot, an engineer in the Electron Tubes Division of Litton Industries and an avid outdoorsman.
