Small business ventures shouldn’t hope for free government money
In a time of stimulus funds and company buyouts, it doesn’t seem ludicrous that many interested in starting up small businesses would look to searching for grant money on the Internet or other options promised on the Matthew Lesko infomercials and others like him. But officials warn against what is called, government grant scams. The government does not give free money away. According to Lauren Bozart, assistant press secretary for the attorney general’s office, there are several ways people may be targeted. Some will receive letters or calls promising money. Others either will be directed or find a link on the Internet. However, no matter what, there is a fee attached. According to the business.gov Web site, after the fee is paid, you may receive the information promised. However, the government agencies listed do not provide grants or help with starting a business.
